2010 Cleaning

January 11th, 2010 omo

I suddenly found myself at a slow work day, so I’ve finally migrated the current omonomono WP theme over to 2.9 usability. Probably it is better if I spend more time investigating pre-existing themes to avoid reinventing the wheel, but this was pretty quick and painless. The only thing that I might have problem down the road is the static page mouseover things, as there are dynamic versions available… Not that it matters, omonomono is unlikely to go through a design change anyways. Even visual, let alone topical.

If you know any good (meaning very simple) single column themes (no sidebars!) that offers page templates like “archives” and “links” etc and must have a dynamic mouseover page link implementation, let me know.

Another 2010 thing is I joined a gym. Because it was $20 a month and they have a pool. Now it’s just a matter of seeing if I can make the time to go. I am plenty motivated if the facilities are good, actually.

Maybe I can squeeze in some time to actually migrate this thing today. Or perhaps a blog post…

Messing with Theme

May 15th, 2009 omo

I’m trying to import an old-ass wordpress theme (circa 2.2.3) to 2.7 or whatever. Pardon the appearance.

[edit]

Actually I’m mostly done. Switching back to the old theme now. Note the URL changes…

Wordpress 2.7.x

April 17th, 2009 omo

Wordpress is well-loved and known for its technical simplicity from the back end. A lot of bloggers are not IT people so they don’t want to mess around with hacking php or tossing files around in shells or whatever. So with 2.7 there is now an “auto-update” mechanism.

Wordpress 2.x is a relatively young platform, and we’re up to 2.7 already, and for every release (like 2-3 major ones for each 2.x increment–like 2.6.0, 2.6.1, 2.6.2) they want you to upgrade… guh. I mean, okay, it’s something some bloggers do meticulously every month or two, but I can’t be bothered. Especially for those who have like multiple blogs, and each blogs have its own set of plugins that needs to be upgraded, and theme changes, et cetera. PITA.

The old automatic plugin upgrader had some flaws, didn’t work well. The new one, along with the overall Wordpress upgrader, works like a charm. the only problem is you can only upgrade one thing at a time. So if you have 8 plugins to update like I do on this blog, you have to upgrade the main blog (1 set of user internetion) and use the upgrader 8 separate times. Not the same as uploading all the scripts via a FTP queue. But I’ll take what I can get.

Think I’m going to kick up a gear and try to revamp my anime blog soon. Still need to bribe some artists to do some header images for me. Like Eric. Ufufufufufu.

Wordpress Woes

March 31st, 2008 omo

OK, not about the NYIAS, but that’s going to come today or tomorrow, I promise.

1. new version 2.5 – not bad, if you didn’t notice I’m running that on this blog right now. After all this is going to be partly experimental in that regard so I can consider if I should migrate to my other, more “serious business” blogs. Omonomono is still running 2.2.3… I’m sort of glad not switching to 2.3 because 2.5 really makes 2.3 outdated. In fact besides the google analytic plugin and the comment editor plugin, 2.5 comes with all you really need–namely a useful media management function is added since 2.3.

2. I got hacked on Friday. It has nothing to do with my site as much as my ISP was just haxxorzed on a root level. This is the second time it has happened in the past 4 years, which is pretty lousy. It coincided with the NYIAS and upgrading to 2.5. Made it kind of easy I guess.

3. Guh. So in the midst of all that the wordpress tinymce plugin decided to bork on me because somehow gzip is configured oddly. So that took me 20 minute to track down and change. You can read about it here if you ever run into the problem in versions 2.0-2.3 that the tinymce plugin isn’t showing your editor buttons. That is, after you figured out it wasn’t your browser being weird.

As an aside, my phone died on Friday, too, so I had to run out Sunday and got it replaced. It was under 30 days since I got the phone so the replacement was easy and painless–well, finding a store that would do it was the hard part. Used my W600 meanwhile. That was a great phone with good quality D:
