Eaters’ Trip to Manhattan

June 29th, 2009 omo

Since Scott and Bonnie came over this week, I’m going to plot out all the notable eats just for reference and what’s interesting. Will try to link to yelp or w/e. We didn’t go to every one listed below, but the name came up for some reason.

1. NY Hotdog and Coffee – Bulbolgi Hotdog

2. Mad for Chicken – Korean fried chicken, dry ice beer tap with killer lights.

3. Ippudo – expensive ramen, awesome pork and broth.

4. Four bakeries in Chinatown…just walk from 6 to Elizabeth via Canal. One place has grass jelly.

5. That Silk Road bubble tea/espresso bar place I go all the time

6. Beard Papa (West 4th) – should have gone but didn’t! Did discover where it is so…heh. Next time!

7. Mesa Grill – I didn’t go, but Scott and Bonnie did

A lot of walking around Soho, Noho, and Union Square areas.

Ikari Hero

February 27th, 2009 omo

So following a few people who work/live in Manhattan via Google Reader, I found myself with this site call Midtown Lunch. From that I found this decent Italian place near work called Lazzara’s. It’s actually one of the best pizza places in Manhattan, suprisingly. Haven’t had a slice there yet, but I’ve had this sandwich.

Highly recommended.

It’s on the expensive side, at $10, but it delivers. A win if you like calamari.

The squid’s breading tend to get soggy quickly, but the squid remains firm and fresh. It bites.

The sandwich is also slightly kicking with spices, but overall just a red sauce, not too much, a little thick, and good flavor with the fried squid breading. Fresh stick of Moz. All in a hero roll.

Better fresh than not, but thumbs up even after a day if you heat it up. It gets a little seafood-y but some people like that.

Chipotle DSL

January 30th, 2008 omo

You can order your chipotle order online, call to confirm, and pick up at your designated time.

Did that today; the 35th street Chipotle can have lines going out to door during lunch, so upon James’ tip we ordered ahead. It was a breeze; hardest part was putting in the phone call.

Did I mention I really like Chipotle? The typical tex-mex is salty and spiced; a hearty mix of chunk tomatoes, corn, salsa, rice and beans is flavorful enough on its own. But the spicy salsa really give it the kick to make it go down fast. Today I had a typical carnitas bol–rice, brown beans, carnitas shreds, corn, chunky salsa, mild salsa, green salsa, cheese, sour cream. I probably should just go with the fajita veggies next time and ditch sour cream.

It’s fresh and despite owned by McD, Chipotle delivers quality Tex-Mex that fills you with fresh material.

[edit]

Apparently after your first visit via the DSL process they even give you a call. Amazing.
