Anime Boston 2009 Scraps

May 25th, 2009 omo

Part one: bullet list:

This is just a continuation of this post’s last segment.

  • Good Witch of the West was on my way down. I like the anime version, even if it’s more like the manga version than the novels. Will continue. Only got 4 eps in.
  • Bolt is awesome. It bears repeating. I might be paying more for internet but w/e.
  • Jabel is very good to be with, being a good complement to my too-shy shy-boy attitude
  • hotels. It’s all about the Newbury Guest House. This also is worth documenting again.
  • Summer Shack and this other restaurant that sells a lot of beer–both pretty good. Would do business again. They are also right next to each other, near the con center.
  • I spent about 3 times more in eats than in dealer’s room goods. At least.
  • Charity auction is awesome if you got a small group of people team up to bid on crap that you later split for stuff.
  • Hi Steve! Thank you for hanging out with me and my goofy friends.
  • An-Ni-Plex. /flip boxes
  • dm showed me Simoun reference sketches that were photocopied. It is…very moe? And his cel collection. And some of the other junk he got off yahoo japan auction.
  • I saw a Sega 1/6 Ruri Hoshino doll in original box, unopened, for $110. LOLLLLLLLLLLLL.
  • I some of the people Jabel befriended over the weekend (people we lined up with) actually read my blog over at omonomono. A Kenny and a Kevin. And maybe some others. They look like youthful Asian specimen that reminded me of my own youthful days. Except they look like they put money and time into looking elite! Ok, I’m not that old but they’re not even half way into the 20s. And my icon is the cat from Azumanga Daioh, Maya…not a weasel. LOL. I don’t know why I felt the need to correct this point. They found my blog via animenano.
  • Yeah, I am old. I felt it. But that might also just be that I’m more out of shape today than I ever was. Ever.
  • [Probably more to come]

Part two: The Attack of Alexes:

Alex D. – the elder, runs an anime store out of his house. Goes the distance using my value matrices. I get what he gets at.

Alex M. – the actual otaku, runs an anime figure store out of his house. Lives like one of my kind. A brother in more ways than one.

Alex K. – the striker, promising youngster with Momotato’s touch. Takes it seriously but also very yukkuri. Also friends with Alex S.

Alex L. – the pontiff, also an up-and-comer. Does the things I wish I could do.

Oh God, Not Another Con

December 11th, 2008 omo

New York Comi-Con is the (older) sister con to New York Anime Fest, and I’ve been to it last year. This year I have absolutely no plans on going although I ended up with some nice merch from them (3.5 ed PHP! WTG WOTC). This time, well, I still feel bad paying like, $40 to walk around a huge dealers room and now I don’t even have Florek to keep me company.

I do, however, have the opportunity to bug Gabe and Tycho. Ugh.

Choices, choices…

Anime USA

October 6th, 2008 omo

I don’t really like to go to cons, besides to:

  • Hang out with people.
  • See special guests.

This year I’ve already hit my 3-con limit (AZ, Otakon, NYAF) so I think that is all for me. Yet I might drop by AUSA just to say hi to a few people. Not really excited about spending money on that.

As a con, AUSA is a fairly typical of the newer crop of cons where it’s mostly the dealer room, con frenzy and cosplay walkways that are the draws. I don’t really care about that (anymore), if ever did. There are a couple interesting things to AUSA, nonetheless:

  • Swap meet–you can bring stuff and barter with other fans, but no cash exchanges allowed. It’s a neat idea if you just have easily-fungible items like R1 DVDs and manga. I know I have stuff to unload, but I think I prefer exchanging them for money instead.
  • Versailles–jrock. Not that I like jrock but I’m always interested in checking out bands that have some repute.
  • Panels–haven’t seen their panel schedule anywhere, can’t say.

Recovering from Animazement

May 27th, 2008 omo

1. Ugh finally some break time. Just have to finish one more set of homework and go to work o/

2. Most of my AZ stuff is online now, off youtube and omonomono.

3. Kotono Mitsuishi took pictures of her trip to the US and you can see me in one of them?? For most of us, it was all about this, anyways.

Animazement Over

May 26th, 2008 omo

Man, as relaxing AZ was, it’s still a con and it makes me tired still.

Check back on my youtube playlist for updated videos, and not just from me.
