ISP Trouble, Documented!

Finally–downtime at work WITH web hosting back online. Time to write stuff.

Background info: my web hosting was barfing, so it appears, much of this past weekend. Things were not fully restored until Monday morning.

My webhost is Made2Own. I signed up with them because Arcu recommended it and he was going to get a ref bonus for me signing up. The price was also right (I believe it was a somethingawful goon deal). I think I’m paying $30 a year ($2.50 a month) for 900mb of space (which is kind of small, yeah…) but 30tb of bandwidth. I think I can get shell access for free if I ask for it, or maybe I have it via some convoluted cpanel widget. Not sure, don’t care too too much. Unlimited domains, emails, ftp accounts, etc. The usual stuff from an average bandwidth reseller.

The major downside (besides having only 900mb of space) is that the past 4 years or so I’ve had this, the box I was hosted on got hacked. Twice. It’s not a big deal, just PITA and resulted in about half a day of reacting to it and uploading the backups, after the initial hack was stopped. This past weekend was something that happened for the first time.

There was a server outage for a few hours–all of Made2Own was pwnd, so to speak. Once things were restored all my domain and subdomains were set up incorrectly. Now I say this because I found out what was wrong, but it took a while to do that. I eventually asked for help from the support guys and they were overall courteous and helpful. With their help I was able to get things up and running…

…3 days later. Because it happened on a Friday and they were not exactly the fastest people. By Monday morning I finally found out what was wrong and they fixed the stuff.

Sigh.
