Anti-Virus

Since AVG forced all its free users to upgrade to version 8 and give us no update for 7, I’ve been looking for a free antivirus system for my home network. I’ve been using Avira Antivir for now, and it’s overall satisfactory except for a couple details (like unable to schedule when to do the update, the ad it pops up, etc).
This week Fry’s (well, outpost.com) is doing a free-after-rebate deal on Kaspersky. For $55 up front you get a 3-user license and 2-year support, but now it’s free if the rebate goes through 8-12 weeks later. It is still version 7 but I think they’re just getting rid the retail packages that aren’t selling. The license key should allow upgrade to version 8. You can find the deal here.
Kaspersky is, in a nutshell, one of the best (if not the best) home-commercial antivirus solution out there. It’s lightweight and scores very solidly in detection and performance. However I haven’t used it before so we’ll see…
